Two levels of check

Basic for the everyday.
Extended before you buy.

Every check uses tokens from the same bundle — a Basic check uses 1 token, an Extended check uses 15. Run Basic checks to keep on top of MOT and tax; run an Extended check whenever money is about to change hands.

Basic check
1 token · from 20p
  • MOT status & expiry — live from DVLA
  • Road tax status & due date
  • Full DVSA MOT test history, defects & mileage readings
  • Vehicle identity, emissions, Euro status & V5C date
  • Insurance write-off history
  • Stolen & outstanding finance markers

Write-off and theft data is sourced from the Motor Insurers' Bureau Vehicle Salvage & Theft Database (formerly MIAFTR). As a voluntary industry scheme, not every insurer contributes and records can be subject to delay — so a clear result cannot guarantee a vehicle has never been damaged. Always inspect a vehicle before purchase.

Why check before you buy

The history you can't see costs you.

Write-offs, outstanding finance, clocked mileage and stolen markers don't show up on a test drive. They show up on the record — and the record is what we check.

1 in 4
used cars checked by the industry carries a hidden history issue — write-off, finance, mileage or theft
£1,000s
at risk on a car with outstanding finance — the lender can legally repossess it from you
1,500+
vehicles are written off by insurers every single day in the UK
1 in 14
cars shows a mileage discrepancy — clocking quietly inflates the price you pay

Figures reflect widely reported UK vehicle-provenance industry data and vary by source and year.

Sixty seconds and a registration is all it takes.
What's checked

Every check, explained.

Everything both checks look at — what’s in every 1-token Basic check, and what the 15-token Extended check adds before money changes hands.

MOT & road tax statusBasic
Live validity from DVLA — current MOT and tax status with expiry dates and a day-by-day countdown, fetched the moment you check.
Full MOT historyBasic
Every DVSA test on record — pass/fail, dangerous and advisory defects in full, and the complete odometer timeline test by test.
Identity & complianceBasic
Make, engine, fuel, colour, first registration, type approval, export marker, CO₂ and Euro status — the vehicle’s official DVLA identity.
V5C logbook dateBasic
Around 200,000 stolen blank logbooks are in circulation. Compare the issue date on the V5C in your hand against DVLA’s latest record.
Insurance write-offExtended
Cat A/B cars should never return to the road; Cat S/N are repairable but worth less and can cost more to insure. Sellers don’t always mention it — the record does.
Stolen markerExtended
If a vehicle is recorded stolen on the Police National Computer, it still belongs to the insurer or original owner. Buy it and you can lose the car and the money.
Outstanding financeExtended
Until an HP or PCP agreement is settled, the lender has a legal interest — and can repossess the car from you, even though you paid in good faith.
Mileage clockingExtended
An independent mileage database cross-checked against the MOT readings, with anomaly detection. Inconsistent readings mean the mileage — and the price — may be a lie.
Previous keepersExtended
DVLA’s registered-keeper count with the date of the last change. Lots of keepers in a short time is a classic sign of a car people keep giving up on.
Plate changesExtended
Plate transfers are usually innocent — but they’re also how bad history gets hidden behind a new registration. We show every change on record.
Scrapped & import markersExtended
A scrapped or destruction-certificate vehicle shouldn’t be for sale at all. Import/export flags matter for spec, warranty and insurance too.
Spec, safety & running costsExtended
Full model identification, power, 0–62, economy, Euro NCAP rating, seats, kerb weight — and the actual road tax cost in pounds per year.
